Fresh and recently discovered Civil War 1/6 tintype of a soldier with a potential ID to the 11th Illinois Infantry. This image recently came from the estate of Regina Jolley McGinn and her late husband Larry Ross McGinn of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Research into their respective family trees yielded some noteworthy results.  Regina’s side of the family mainly lived in Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama.  Her lineage pretty much ruled out the image belonging to her side of the family; her people were all from the South.  Larry McGinn, her husband, his family tree did provide some possible information.  Like Regina, almost all of Larry’s ancestors were from Southern states, except for one line.  Larry’s father was Theodore Roosevelt McGinn.  Theodore’s mother was Sarah Louisa Buckner McGinn.  Sarah’s father was Leonard Macklin Buckner.  
Leonard served in Company C, 11th Illinois Infantry.  Worthy of note is that the man in the tintype is posed with a stack of Saxon Belgian muskets.  The 11th Illinois Infantry was indeed issued Belgian muskets early in the war.  
This, naturally, can’t be taken as solid proof of the identification of the image.  But, with all known facts, both Regina and Larry’s relatives are all from southern states (beside the Buckner line), this gives us enough information to warrant including this information with the image.  The research and the process of elimination lead to Leonard Macklin Buckner of the 11th Illinois Infantry being the most likely candidate as to the identification of the man in the image.
The images condition itself can be seen in the photo, it has some bubbling but appears to be completely stable. The image was found uncased and no mat which then I put it in an excellent condition patriotic eagle and shield leatherette. This is a really unique image that we feel very confident in the potential ID based on the circumstances on how it came to surface.
