Formerly of the Herb Peck Jr collection Identified Civil War 1/4 Tintype of 8th Company 1st New York Sharpshooter Morton S Twitchell. Identified by sharpshooter expert Brian White, Brian writes out and describes how he was able to correctly identify our soldier: “other Sergeants in the 8th company were 20-22 years old, far younger then the Sergeants in the tintype. 1st Sergeants was 33 years old but deserted in October of 1863; physical description and height does not match Sergeants in tintype”.
This image itself displays excellent, though a little short on the edges, it’s not to noticeable as your eyes automatically go to the fantastically tinted uniform and the Berdan Sharps rifle. There is a little bit of crazing on the image but nothing major. Really outstanding image here! Housed in a full leatherette case.
