Formerly of the Herb Peck Jr collection Identified Civil War 1/4 Tintype of 8th Company 1st New York Sharpshooter Morton S Twitchell. Identified by sharpshooter expert Brian White, Brian writes out and describes how he was able to correctly identify our soldier: “other Sergeants in the 8th company were 20-22 years old, far younger then the Sergeants in the tintype. 1st Sergeants was 33 years old but deserted in October of 1863; physical description and height does not match Sergeants in tintype”.

This image itself displays excellent, though a little short on the edges, it’s not to noticeable as your eyes automatically go to the fantastically tinted uniform and the Berdan Sharps rifle. The backdrop is the "Culpepper" type identified by Dale Niesen. His hat bears an 8 over a 1, over a dark First Corps badge. The unit and backdrop means it was taken while the 1st NYSS was attached to the Iron Brigade. There is a little bit of crazing on the image but nothing major. Really outstanding image here! Housed in a full leatherette case.
