Original Civil War letter from a captured Confederate Soldier informing he’d been captured and requesting to borrow money.
Fort Delaware April 7th 1865
Dear Madam
I was captured on the 2d March last and arrived here on the 12th. I am sorry circumstances has placed me in such a condition, as to have to intrude upon your generosity for a small sum, hoping it may be convenient for you to favor me. When the opportunity presents itself, I will return the favor with interest. I was acquainted with the Doctor. He being with us last Fall in the valley. The fall of Richmond I fear will so interrupt the exchange that we will have to remain in prison many months to come. Hoping to hear from you soon
I remain Your Friend
